About This Dog for Adoption

Ruby's ideal home

Ruby will need a quiet home where any children are over 16 and she can be the only pet, as she is a nervous girl from Romania. She is house trained and has been left alone for a few hours without worry.

Could you be Ruby's perfect match?

Ruby was found abandoned on a roadside with her three pups who were just a few days old. A place was secured for her in UK rescue but that fell through, and Dogs Trust were asked to step in and help, and now she is safely in our care and her puppies were rehomed by us too. Ruby is a very nervous girl indeed and it takes her a while to trust people, but she has built such a lovely bond with her handler Chloe and even spends weeks at a time at Chloe's home. There, she's been able to relax and show off her playful side that we don't get to see at the centre and has been enjoying being a regular dog. Ruby is going to need a family that understands she will take months, if not longer, to settle in. We have seen her grow hugely in confidence, so we know she has the potential to live a happy life, and she's gone from being unable to walk on a lead to enjoying exploring the centre and surrounding areas. As long as Ruby has someone she trusts by her side, she is much more willing to try new things and is naturally a curious dog. Ruby has shared her part-time foster home with two other dogs, but she will not tolerate them near her food and prefers no interaction with them at all. She will tolerate a dog by her whilst out walking but doesn't try to interact and prefers them to ignore her also. There is also a cat in the house and Ruby seems much less concerned by this and may share her home with a cat if it stays away from her food. Ruby really does have the potential to love she just hasn't been shown much in her short life. Patience and kindness are the key to bringing this gentle girl out of her fears and into a world that she will be ready to explore with her family by her side.

Labrador Puppy Buying Checklist

We highly recommend every buyer reads through the below advice when purchasing or rehoming a Labrador Retriever.

  • View the animal in the place it was born and raised - check for genuine home environments if buying privately, or the quality of the breeders set-up if applicable.
  • If viewing a puppy under 8 weeks, by law they MUST be seen with their mum.
  • Make sure the animal's old enough to be rehomed. 8 weeks should be the earliest a puppy can be rehomed.
  • By law, all dogs MUST be microchipped
  • Review and verify any documents, such as KC registration paperwork where applicable

Avoid Potential Scams

There are a number of red flags to look out for when purchasing a new puppy:

  • Seller demands a deposit without allowing you to see the dog first - never send any money before meeting the animal in person
  • Seller is reluctant to send you additional photos or videos
  • Seller offers to deliver the dog/puppy
  • Seller asks to meet in a mutual location
  • Seller uses fake or stolen photos from the internet. Always carry out a "Google image search".
  • Seller asks to immediately switch to communication off the Labrador Owners website
  • Seller uses a different phone number to the one listed on the website - especially if that phone number is in one of the advert images

Although we have a number of automated systems in place to prevent scam and fraudulant adverts, these can never be 100% accurate and its important to use caution when buying online. We do not accept any responsibility for transactions between our users, especially when our safe buying advice is not followed.
